So, what is the DelGuard system? The DelGuard utilizes an ingenious two-part system that makes it virtually impossible to break the lead. First, the spring in the pencil's barrel lets the lead slide back into the pencil instead of snapping it if too much vertical pressure is applied. Second, another spring in the tip dynamically extends the lead guard to protect the lead when too much lateral force is applied. Plus, it has the Hard to Jam feature, which keeps you continuing writing without fear of the lead caught jam between, whereby DelGuard Light doesn't have. 

It may sound unclear, but it works! And without the annoyance and interruption of breaking the pencil lead, you'll find your concentration better improved.
